1. First Man [Blu-Ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A sporadically effective biopic, First Man works best when it focuses on its impactful space photography. However, the movie lacks much depth and seems more superficial and derivative than I’d like. Starring Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy. Universal, $34.98, 1/22/2019.

2. Crazy, Stupid, Love [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Crazy, Stupid, Love takes an excellent cast and puts them to decent use. However, it runs too long and involves too muddled a story to really succeed; it’s entertaining but flawed. The Blu-ray comes with reasonably good picture and audio but skimps on supplements. This makes for passable date night fare. Starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling. Warner, $35.9

3. The Notebook [Blu-Ray Ultimate Collector's Edition] (2004)
"Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Slow, predictable and trite, I

4. Blue Valentine [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want a consistent coherent relationship drama, Blue Valentine won’t be for you. The movie tends to be hit or miss; it hits enough to make it worthwhile, but its sags frustrate. The Blu-ray comes with decent picture and audio as well as a smattering of useful supplements. I like Valentine enough to recommend it but I can’t promise greatness from it

5. Barbie [4K UHD] (2023)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A massive cultural and commercial hit, Barbie radically exceeds what one would expect from a movie based on a toy. It does not always connect, but it comes so packed with ideas, humor and heart that it turns into a clear winner. Starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling. Warner, $39.98, 10/17/2023.

6. The Nice Guys [Blu-Ray] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although a good cast gives it some spark, The Nice Guys falls short of expectations. The story becomes too muddled and the script worries more about quirks than clear development. Starring Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling. Warner, $24.95, 8/23/2016.

7. The Big Short [Blu-Ray] (2015)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With The Big Short, we get a fairly entertaining take on a complicated subject. While it doesn’t hit on all cylinders, it does more than enough right to succeed. Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell. Paramount, $39.99, 3/15/2016.

8. Drive [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With its airy feel and insulated character, Drive offers an unusual – and somewhat “arty” – take on the action flick. It takes chances and most of these succeed, as it creates an involving, character-oriented thriller. The Blu-ray boasts excellent visuals and solid audio but doesn’t include a lot of supplements; an interview with the director stands out

9. The Ides Of March [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a fan of political dramas, I went into The Ides of March with high hopes. Unfortunately, it fails to live up to expectations; while not without interesting moments – and buoyed by a killer cast – the end result seems melodramatic and not particularly involving. The Blu-ray boasts very good picture, competent audio and a decent set of extras highlighte

10. Blade Runner 2049 [4K UHD] (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: 35 years after the original film, Blade Runner 2049 gives us a follow-up that often fizzles. While I admire the movie’s ambition and visual panache, the movie runs far too long and seems much slow-paced. Starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford. Warner, $44.95, 1/16/2018.
